Laurent Pelly is a French opera and theatre director born in Paris in 1962. He enjoys a career as one of France's most sought after directors of both theatre and opera, working regularly in the world’s most prestigious houses. ==Biography== In 1980 (at the age of 18) he founded the (Compagnie Théâtrale du Pélican ) which, since 1982, has been co-directed with Agathe Mélinand. From 1994, he became associated with Le Centre Dramatique National des Alpes (CDNA), Grenoble being appointed as director from 1997 to 2007. In 2007 he was appointed as co-director, with Agathe Mélinand, at the (Théâtre national de Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées (TNT) ). Laurent Pelly is particularly renowned for his work in French repertoire, and has a skill for revealing the serious side of comedy. He underlines his interpretation of characters through skilful and inspired costume designs and in recent years has expanded into set design. His productions are detailed, satirical, often surreal, exquisite in taste and wonderfully imaginative in both conception and execution.
